This is a perfect illustration of the importance of search engine optimization (SEO), based on my own personal story. Sure, I have a background in marketing communications, and I can understand the important of search engine optimisation from the business perspective, but the following tidbit is an illustration of what SEO means as an average consumer. SAMPAR is a French cosmetics company based out of Paris, springing up quickly from the European market and now increasingly popular in North America. In Paris, it is sold in many cosmetics stores, including Sephora, and is easy to find. On a trip to the United States, I had run out of a particular product of SAMPAR, and used Google (the ultimate tester of search engine optimsation) to find the local Sephora--which I then found out didn't carry the brand.
